Under the supervision of the Dean of the Community Education Division or designee, to teach English as a Second Language/English Language Learners (ESL/ELL) in the classroom and in a workshop to a diverse learning population that includes immigrants and refugees; and to assist with ESL learners' acculturation and integration into the community.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities


  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
  • Manage the classroom/laboratory.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
  • Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with advisory committee in program area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Minimum Education Requirements:

Must have a bachelor's degree or higher* with at least 15 coursework credits(graduate or undergraduate level) in the areas listed below:
  • English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • TeachingEnglish to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
  • TeachingEnglish as a Second Language (TESL)
  • TeachingEnglish as Foreign Language (TEFL)
  • Linguistics
  • Applied Linguistics

Minimum Occupational Experience Requirements: In additional to the educational requirements listed above.
  • Must have a minimum of one (1) year of full-time or two (2) years of part-time experience as an English as a Second Language/English Language Leaning (ESL/ELL) instructor specifically.

Supplemental Information


Start Date: This position supports the Community Education Division and is available to start in the spring 2026 semester (January or February).

This is a part-time faculty pool position. This is an "applicant pool" posting. Assignments are temporary, not guaranteed, can vary in hours/days, and will depend entirely on course availability and department needs each semester. All work must be performed in the state of Wisconsin. We are seeking candidates with flexibility to teach assignments to include any combination of the following:
  • Instructional Modality: In-person (primarily for this position), online, and/or hybrid (Location could be at MATC campuses, business, community, or other sites)
  • Teaching Times: Daytime, evening, and/or weekend classes

Salary: The starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable.
