Description
The Department of English at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English Teacher Education, with a sub-specialization in African-American, Latine and/or Indigenous literatures and cultures, urban education, or related fields, beginning in September 2024. The successful candidate will teach courses in pedagogy and in their content-area specialization, in both the undergraduate teacher preparation and MAT programs.


Qualifications
Required qualifications: PhD or EdD in English education, English, or Related Fields by September, 2024; Sub-specialization in African American, Latine, and/or Indigenous literatures and cultures, urban education, or related fields; Teacher Certification in English; post-secondary teaching experience as well as high school or middle school ELA teaching experience; evidence of the ability to conduct and publish scholarly research in relevant fields; experience with professional organizations such as English Language Arts Teacher Educators (ELATE), the National Writing Project, National Council of Teachers of English, New York State English Council, or other NCTE Affiliates, American Educational Research Association (AERA),or Long Island Language Arts Council; demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in education.

Preferred qualifications: Record of publication in peer-reviewed journals; experience creating new courses and developing existing curricula; demonstrated interest in securing external research funding in relevant areas; demonstrated interest in mentoring underserved student populations; experience with accreditation.
