Job Summary: Assist the English as a Second Language (ESL) administration and students in ESL at Salt Lake Technical College. By helping students navigate registration and information about the ESL courses and program and assisting with administrative tasks.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Participate as a team member of the English as a Second Language (ESL) department by assisting with duties and tasks, including:
- Assist with clerical tasks such as: data entry, filing, answering phones, and completing forms.
- Collaborate with staff on projects, using Microsoft Office Suite, and SLCC web programs.
- Answer student/potential student questions about the courses and program.
- Foster a respectful and inclusive environment for all students, faculty, and staff
- Be open to taking on other duties as assigned by the ESL administration as needed.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Effective communication in explaining complex concepts and information.
- Currently enrolled at SLCC as an undergraduate student and in good academic standing (i.e., 2.0 GPA or higher).
- Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Registered for 9.0 credit for Fall and Spring semesters.
- Registered for 6.0 credit hours for summer semester.
- Participate in CIP professional development activities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: As a qualified professional, you must possess the following skills and qualities: Excellent oral and written communication skills for effective interpersonal communication Comfortable working in a team or alone Warm, personable, and flexible; able to put people at ease Comprehensive customer service skills to ensure customer satisfaction Ability to work with diverse populations Capacity to collaborate effectively with other office staff, and a variety of campus departments Proficiency in organizing, processing, and applying large amounts of information with accuracy Willingness to learn the requirements of SLCC departments, majors, schools, programs, degree options and College resources and procedures such as application, registration, catalog, and schedule Ability to work under pressure and function independently with integrity under minimal supervision Knowledge of basic computer operating systems such as Microsoft Office Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and the student information system (Banner) Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and maintain good working relationships across the College Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
